Born on 26th March 1980, Hitesh is the founder of The Music Gurukul. Having his first encounter with the guitar at the tender age of 10, he took to learning the guitar only at the age of 18. In the interim, he tried his hands at the drums, harmonium and violin and also took Hindustani classical lessons. He learned to play the guitar under the guidance of Mr.Bharat Panchal, Mr.Bismarc Rodriguez and Mr.Ashley Quiney.
In 2002 he started a music school called “El Musico,” along with a few other musicians, where many a students learned the keyboards, guitars, sitar, saxophone, drums and tabla. In 2003-04 he did a sound engineering course from Limerick, Republic of Ireland. After returning to India in 2004 he resumed his endeavor with the Music School that is now called “The Music Gurukul (TMG)”.
Along with TMG he also started “The Music Mistry” studios. Today, he runs The Music Mistry during the week, where he works on advertisement jingles, works on production of albums for budding artists and is also working on his own album. And during the weekend he teaches all he knows about guitars to everyone who wants to learn!
His journey to being a Singer / Song-writer / Composer / Music Producer has been rather twisted. Having landed up in the Commerce Stream post standard tenth in Mumbai, Hitesh realized that his calling was in something more interesting and meaningful than Books of Accounts all piled up in front of him. He went to VESCollege in Chembur,Bombay where he started his musical journey.
Six months into taking Guitar Lessons in his Second year at College Hitesh was in the College Band playing soft rock and pop songs. It was an amazing phase in his life because he got exposed to a lot of different kinds of music thanks to his band members. With every passing day his conviction became more and more strong that he had found the road that he wanted to tread along! “I remember showing my mom a picture of a 75 year old playing Guitar in a Jazz-fest somewhere inAmericaand saying that - This is what I want to be doing till my very end." He says.
While in the college band he performed songs by Sting, Beatles, Bryan Adams, Richard Marx, Elvis and the likes. For a brief while he was also in a heavy metal outfit playing Iron Maiden and Metallica. His influences range from Eric Clapton, Extreme, Weather report, Paco De Lucia, Joe Satriani, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan etc. Hitesh is currently working on his debut album, which has Hindi songs in the soft-rock and pop genres. It’s his dream project and he hopes to have it out very soon!
